Little Boy

World War II
    The “Little Boy” was created through the Manhattan Project when Albert Einstein suggested to President Roosevelt that they create a atomic bomb. With the President’s permission, Einstein worked with Robert Oppenheimer, David Bohm, Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Otto Frisch, Rudolf Peierls, Felix Bloch, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre, James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs and Edward Teller to create the bomb. Before testing “the Gadget” in New Mexico, scientists were unsure whether the bomb would fail to detonate or if it would work too well and destroy the planet. However when the bomb was tested, it succeeded their expectations. The bomb shot up 360 feet per second and a cloud of radioactive vapor materialized at 30,000 feet. Even a blind girl 120 miles away noticed the flash. Another bomb was then made, and used to destroy Hiroshima.

Monologue from the Perspective of an Inventor of the Atomic Bomb:
    This bomb, this one bomb defines the war. It will either end it, or we will die trying. I’ve put most of my life into the Manhattan project and I swear it will work! Everybody’s looking up to me -- my friends, my family -- so it has to work! But there’s still so many factors we have to account for. The plane dropping it from such a high altitude, the wind, the landscape! All it has to do, it’s one job, is to end this damn war.

Scenes of War Proposal

Through Hell’s Fire & The Death of Germany’s Favorite General

1.) Overview of War: World War II

World War II was the longest, bloodiest war in history as it lasted a total of six years from September 1st, 1939- August 14, 1945. The war was caused by a variety of reasons, such as the failed Treaty of Versailles, which caused Germany to lose some of their land and pay 132 billion marks at the end of World War I. Another cause was that the League of Nations, a sort of earlier version of the United Nations, had failed in it’s primary purpose: to prevent future wars. And lastly, Adolf Hitler was an expansionist, as he sought to recover the land that Germany lost due to the Treaty of Versailles and then he began to megalomaniacally his conquest of Europe and then the world. And so, with all these, on the day of September 1st, 1939, the war began with the German invasion of Poland. And ended on September 2nd, 1945 when the surrender documents were signed aboard the USS Missouri.

2.) Overview of Perspective: A soldier who had found a boy trapped under rubble

At first, it was nothing special, then there was a white light and I couldn’t tell what had happened. Was I dead? Was I killed by those filthy American pigs? I thought, trying to desperately get a grip on the situation, then I was thrown backwards into a wall with such a violent, powerful force proving that I wasn’t dead, but something was seriously wrong. I slowly looked up to see what appeared to be a giant mushroom cloud coming from the city of Hiroshima. I grab my gear and possessions and run towards the city to see if there are any survivors. As I get closer to Hiroshima, the sky becomes darker, as if clouded by a malevolent force. Soon it became pitch black, but then distant lights guided my path, I wondered what the lights were until I got close to the source. It was fire, acres and acres of fire and black sky. Truly, I must have died, because this is, without a doubt, Hell. That’s when I hear a voice “Help! Please help! Hello? Anyone! Help!”
The voice frightens me at first, but then the more I hear the desperate cries for help, I begin to realize that it’s the voice of a child. I wander towards the burning ruins of a building when I see a child trapped underneath debris. As he wraps his arms around my neck, I know he’s still conscious, which relieves me and we wander through the fire for what seems like hours, when he mutters something quietly, “Takashi.” I repeat the name slowly and smile at him, and he smiles back. Soon, we reach the city and my mind starts to think about how this really is Hell and how maybe this child died with me. The buildings are destroyed, the sky is even blacker here, the only thing keeping the city lit is all the fire and there is death everywhere. All I can think is “Why?”

World War II:

     World War II began on September 1, 1939 and ended in 1945. Throughout the war about 50-70 million people were killed. Hitler was very influential in the war. Germany, Italy, and Japan made up the Axis of Power. The Allies were America, France, Britain, and Russia. America became involved after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Some of the negative effects of World War II were aconomic devastation in Europe, trauma, and homelessness. Some of the positive effects include economic growth in America and an increase in women's rights.

Monologue from the Perspective of Isadore Helfing:

     A four year old boy living in Kielce, Poland during the World War II. In September of 1939, my family and I were put in a ghetto, thay called it. My parents were sent to Treblinka, a concentration camp to be killed, and I had the choice of going with them, or staying and being forced tino labor. We rode there in a train for cattle, and the moment we arrived, I see dead bodies, two stories high. They are in front of it and they throw out the bodies because more trains come, so they throw them out. The boys pull the bodies into the graves and I jump in like one of them.

     In Treblinka, you are going down allies as they say, "Man on right, Women at left" so you would all go to the gas chambers. They were pushed in, screamed and pushing each other because they knew, until they were all in. Then they were gassed and slid pout the others side and put into graves. The ones who handled the dead bodies out of the chambers, or the ones who worked with the bodies of the trains.

     "Listen, this is going to be an uprising", the man told me. He said they were giving out ammunition to people who knew how to handle it. The fence around the camp was not electric, so it was easy to jump over. I saw the bullets hit the ground in front of me as we ran into the woods and hid overnight. Many of us got away, but all the others were killed on the spot. We found this out after the war, we counted how many had survived from both parts of the camp altogether--27.

Overview Of War: Vietnam War:

The Vietnam started in November 1st, 1955 and came to end in April 30th, 1975. The war started because North Vietnam was a communist lead nation and it’s leader, Ho Chi Minh, wanted South Vietnam to be communist as well. While North and South Vietnam were fighting over this, America decided to intervene by sending soldiers over to aid South Vietnam. America wanted to help South vietnam out because they were afraid that if both South and North Vietnam were communist, that other nations would follow. Since the Vietnam war wasn’t technically America’s war to fight in, the American citizens found it to be very pointless and a waste of too many innocent lives. Because of this outrage, there was tons of protests and peace rallies. The American citizens were finally satisfied when Nixon started pulling the troops out of Vietnam when he was elected in 1969. Sadly, North and South Vietnam merged into one communist country by 1975, bringing an end to the war.

Monologue:

In early October of 1967, I had been sent to Vietnam after training for a about a year. My duties were to serve there for two years. During my two years of service in Vietnam, I can definitely say that I’ve had my fair share of life threatening experiences. The most horrific one that I’ve faced, and my most memorable one, took place in March 22, of 1968. Rumors were going around from soldier to soldier for weeks, saying that NVA were planning on launching an assault on our base; since it was the anniversary of the the March 1954 assault on the French stronghold at Dien Bien Phu. At about 2100 hours I started to feel a heavy impact repeatedly shake the ground. The rumors were true, the assault had commenced.

The sergeant and I were pinned down in a bunker, having a repeated barrage of ammo unloaded onto us. We were relying on our landline communications with our gun positions for a short time,  until it was destroyed between the gunfire. The sergeant and I decided to flee our bunker and make run for the Quad 50 position. My heart almost stopped as we ran between the crossfire, fearing that I might lose my life to one lucky shot. We successfully made it to the bunker unharmed and found a crew huddled inside unable to make contact by landline or radio with the other gun positions. We told them to stand by their weapons then I commanded the sergeant to go to the nearby duster position. I ran towards the opposite direction to the distant duster and Quad 50 positions at the other end of the runway. I ran no more than 50 meters when rocket came down destroyed the command post bunker about 50 meters in front of me. I ran across the runway to retrieve medical attention for the victims of the rocket strike. I got a corpsman to come and aid them. I was able to meet up with the sergeant afterwards at the Quad 50 position, and we were able to man our guns and fight our way through the invasion.

Overview of the War: World War 2

The World War 2 occurred from 1939 to 1945. This War is known as the war with most fatalities in total of 60 million people. Such war is what makes us what we are today, but before the conflicts were over, many people died, many people invented and many people triumphed. The weapon I will be specialising on for this proposal will be that of Gas Chambers, which were present as a form of killing and torture during War World 2.  Gas Chambers where a form of liquidation for the Jewish people present in the concentration camps. The gas had several effects on the ones exposed to them. Some of those effects would be insufficient oxygen for those inside, they might immediately die, or may take up to fifteen minutes. Foam may also rise from their mouths, as well as the nervous system may be attacked preventing the victim to move. Most of all the worst effect is radioactivity. This form of chemical weapon kills sooner or later.

Overview of Perspective: 

Gas Chamber Perspective from Regina Bialek Everytime I look at those images, I see myself in there, I see my companions, I see my friends, and worst of all I see those victims, and me included. I first got sick on December 25 and the politics where if you couldn’t work, you were dead. When they grabbed me, I didn’t understand why. But I knew where I was heade. I saw it on the looks of those I passed, and the thoughts of saying goodbye. They stripped my clothes and pushed me with the others. I walked up towards the corner and stayed there, waiting for all it all to finish. Screams came from the center of the rooms. Smoke started coming out and the screams were intensified. People started falling to the ground quivering, shaking, giving their last breaths of life before they went into a long sleep. I began to feel something rolling down my ear, my eyes, my mouth. I looked up thinking it was water, thinking it was nothing, but when I looked up I didn’t see a thing. My vision was blurred in a red color, there was a weird taste in my mouth that I couldn’t get rid of. I began to fall, and thats when I heard my number been called. The one who saved me was wearing a mask, he grabbed me by the arm and took me out. I could feel people grabbing my hands, my feet, my arms, my legs, something they could get a hold of, something with which they could escape. I could still hear them screaming, but as I was covered up in a blanket, all that screaming went numb. Nothing was heard and it all went black.

Description of Vietnam War

The Vietnam war lasted from 1959 until 1975. Its main cause was that the United states

wanted to prevent the spread of communism in Vietnam. 

The war was fought in Vietnam. The area is very dense in jungle so the American

soldiers had more difficulty getting through. This however was an advantage to the

Vietnamese. They had a lot of booby traps and surprise attacks. 

Monologue

Our job was to guard the village Phu Da. My first night there, a report came in that an

attack from Vietnamese soldiers was coming to wipe us out. When they came, I was so

scared, this was the first attack I experienced. Luckily, it started to pour, and we were

saved from that attack. There were many other attacks like that. we soon were only left

with five marines. When we went out for patrol, we would have to go through the terrain

of swamps and jungles. One time there was a little girl riding a water buffalo in the rice

fields. There had been placed a booby trap and a mine exploded the both of them. I just

remember people running to and from the village collecting the buffalo meat and selling

it in the market.

I had a dream one night that there was an attack and two marines were killed. I woke

up scared to death and could not go back to sleep. The next morning I asked to switch

patrols with another marine, being still terrified from my nightmare. While standing

guard in the village, a report came over the radio. The men who went on patrol had

stepped on a booby trap. I instantly started panicking. I wanted to run to them but I was

told to stay in the village. They both were killed. I could not get over this incident. I had

previously stepped on a booby trap that week. However, it did not go off. I had gotten so

lucky.

Description: World War II took place on September 1, 1939 and ended in 1945 with the victory going to the Allies. The reason why this war happened was because of how the Treaty of Versailles failed, which was a treaty that basically limited and blamed Germany for the events of World War I. The two forces that fought in this war consisted of the Axis of Power (Germany, Italy, and Japan) and the Allies (France, Britain, USA, and Russia). Various types of warfare was used, such as conventional warfare being the most basic type. This war would also introduce a new type of warfare, called nuclear warfare, where the USA used against Japan to end the war. The negative effects that this war had was that it caused trauma to the war veterans as well as having the most number of deaths (fifty to seventy million). Positive effects that this war had however was that women’s rights were enforced plus the USA having an economic boom.

Monologue: As I arrived from the freight trains into the Auschwitz camp, the flames and strange odor greeted us with menacing flicks of flame coming out from one of the crematoriums. If you showed the smallest bit of defiance or weakness, you would be instantly shot. It was a well known fact that every six months, the group you came in with would be gassed, excluding the “strongest ones”.

The first thing you encounter in the gas chamber was a dressing room. People were tricked by the writing on its walls, saying: "Put shoes into the cubby holes and tie them together so you will not lose them. After the showers you will receive hot coffee." Then the victims undressed themselves and entered, where they would never come back. When the room reached its maximum capacity, the small children were thrown through a window and were killed by the guards smashing their skulls against the wall. Then the gas would slowly enter the chamber. The lungs of the victims would gradually rupture, and after a few minutes you would hear unusual thumps and noises. After that the guards would unlock the chamber, and those who still displayed signs of life were beaten to death.
